Artist's Comments

I took this early this summer after we had gotten a ton of rain. It was taken at Falls Park in Sioux Falls. This section here is actually very small, the highest rock only coming up to about my knee, and is usaully just dry rock. I went looking for it a couple months later and had a hard time finding it without the water running over it.

Falls Park is a section of the Big Sioux River right in the middle of the city. The entire park is covered in pink rock (looks grey in the picture because it's wet) and forms the falls. There used to be an old mill there, but now it's just a tourist trap. It's still a nice place to go though, even though I live here.

I normally don't like taking pictures of the falls because it's so overdone around here, but after rain this summer there were so many little waterfalls that popped up. I had to get pictures. I was originally searching for a reference for a painting though, so most of those won't ever be posted.

Yes, I upped the contrast on this quite a bit. I was just playing around, but I didn't do enough to really call it a manip. I just really felt like uploading something.

its true a lot of people take photos of waterfalls and the like, but i must say that there is something very dynamic about moving water and its really quite appealing :)

Water is definitely my favorite subject to take pictures of. When I said that pictures of the falls are overdone, I was moreso saying that too many people take pictures of falls park here. And more often than not it's just the same view of this one section of the falls because it's the most prominent picturesque area there. So that image is plastered all over Sioux Falls in advertisments and art alike. I'm not so sure why that bothers me, but it does.

I really enjoy walking around the falls in the more unnoticed areas. There aren't any rules about going off the the sidewalk, though they do discourage people from walking around on the rocks... (not that I ever listen). So I definitely took advantage of all that rain and all the new waterfalls it created.

That turned out to be a rather long reply...
